Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement
Rusticus is committed to preventing modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking in all aspects of its operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to act ethically and with integrity in all business relationships and to take appropriate steps to ensure that modern slavery does not occur within our organisation or in the delivery of this contract.
Organisational Commitment
Rusticus operates primarily within the UK cultural and heritage sector, working with performers, creative practitioners and small-scale suppliers. We maintain a transparent and fair approach to recruitment, contracting and procurement, ensuring that all individuals engaged by Rusticus do so freely and under agreed terms and conditions.
All staff and performers:
• Are engaged voluntarily
• Receive clear contracts and agreed rates of pay
• Are paid directly and promptly
• Have the right to refuse work without penalty
We do not use agencies or suppliers that operate in high-risk sectors associated with modern slavery.
Recruitment & Employment Practices
Rusticus ensures that:
• Recruitment is conducted openly and ethically
• No recruitment fees are charged to workers
• All practitioners have the right to work in the UK
• Identity and eligibility checks are carried out in line with legal requirements
• No individual is required to surrender personal documents or accept unfair working conditions
Terms and conditions are communicated clearly in advance, allowing individuals to make informed decisions about their engagement.
Supply Chain & Procurement
Rusticus works primarily with UK-based suppliers, including:
• Costume designer-makers
• Accommodation providers
• Small-scale production support services
Where possible, we:
• Use trusted suppliers with established ethical practices
• Prioritise reuse and adaptation of existing materials
• Avoid complex or opaque supply chains
We expect our suppliers and partners to share our commitment to ethical working practices and to comply with all relevant employment and human rights legislation.
Risk Assessment
Due to the nature of our work and our supply chains, Rusticus considers the risk of modern slavery within our operations to be low. However, we remain vigilant and committed to reviewing our practices to identify and mitigate any potential risks.
Training & Awareness
Rusticus directors and managers are responsible for ensuring that:
• Ethical recruitment and employment practices are upheld
• Concerns can be raised safely and confidentially
• Any suspected issues are addressed immediately
All staff and practitioners are encouraged to raise concerns about working conditions or treatment without fear of reprisal.
Ongoing Commitment
Rusticus will continue to:
• Review its policies and procedures regularly
• Work with partners who share its values
• Promote transparency and fairness in all aspects of its operations
• Take appropriate action should any concerns be identified
This statement reflects Rusticus’ commitment to acting responsibly and ethically in all its activities and partnerships
