Winter Wassailing Adventure !
The Woodland Trust 2018
The Brief
We were first asked by our client at Skipton Castle Woods in 2018 for an event celebrating the woods in Winter! They were keen to keep the event within the aims of The Woodland Trust with a focus on looking after and appreciating the forest and to remain inclusive for all during the Christmas season.
What We Did
We decided to focus the adventure on the tradition of wassailing. Involving song, trees and oftentimes – cider! Wassailing is about celebrating the trees in their dormant state and encouraging them to endure the Winter ready to bud again in the Spring. There are several wassailing carols which, along with snowy favourites – Jingle Bells and the Holly and The Ivy formed the basis of our musical narrative!
The Result
We successfully delivered the event at Skipton Castle Woods in December 2018. The success of the 2018 delivery led on to subsequent events for The Woodland Trust at Skipton Castle Woods in 2019 and at The Smithills Estate, Bolton in 2019 and 2021.

“We loved Wassailing with Rusticus at Smithills Hall this morning. It was super entertaining and we have been doing the Nutty Nut dance all afternoon1 Thanks for the fun, our 7, 5 and 2 year olds will all remember it for ages!”
