Time Travelling Adventure !
The Canal & River Trust 2018
The Brief
We were delighted to be contacted by Lizzie Dealey from the Canal & River Trust back in Summer 2017. She’d heard about Rusticus and wanted to talk about an exciting project at Pocklington Canal funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. As part of this ambitious project, they were restoring sections of the canal itself, whilst restoring the special wildlife habitats along the canal and running a series of exciting community events and activities to showcase the rich heritage of this idyllic rural East Yorkshire canal. Could we help bring the human stories to life?
What We Did
We drew on archive material of the original construction of the canal, locks and bridges, whilst discovering the present-day restoration work of a dedicated team of volunteers. What struck us is how people are central to Pocklington Canal’s story – from its origins as a man-made concept, to its creation, and it continuing usage for industry and for pleasure. We created a brand new time travelling adventure to take audiences on a journey through the ages along tranquil rural waterways and open farmland with plenty of interactive activities!
The Result
We delivered the Pocklington Canal adventure as part of the Heritage Open Day in May 2018 and at the Bicentenary Festival and Boat Rally in July which were followed by further commissions from The Canal & River Trust in 2019 and beyond.

“Thanks again for the wonderful performance you and your actors have created, I really love it”
