Shipwrecked! A castaway cooking experience..
Holiday Activities Fund 2023
The Brief
The Holiday Activities Fund exists to provide opportunities for young people and their families who are in receipt of benefit-related free school meals to experience wholesome and fun outdoor activities which includes receiving a meal in the school holidays. Our submission to the fund was based around the idea that families would attend our events together, cook together and eat together all in the the beautiful setting of Sewerby Hall & Gardens or Humber Bridge Country Park.
What We Did
The event we proposed required a specialist team, so the first thing was to get our colleagues Andrew Dickens and Zoe Rowden on board. Andrew is an outdoor chef and Zoe is a forest schools practitioner and both have a performing background. Andrew and Zoe created a four hour immersive experience based on our initial idea of being castaways, washed to shore on the Humber or at the foot of Sewerby steps. Meanwhile at Rusticus HQ we concentrated on marketing and booking the event whilst liaising with the team at HAF
The Result
We delivered four days of Shipwreck over Summer 2023 on time and within budget. We reached brand new audiences in the East Riding delivering advice for healthy eating and budgeting for food in an exciting immersive adventure in beautiful places! As always, families enjoyed activities together – including taste tests, coconut shy, clay modelling, sword making and cooking fish tacos and chocolate pancakes on outdoor barbecues – all hosted by charismatic pirate characters!
““My daughter and I absolutely loved our shipwrecked adventure. Brilliant, wholesome, healthy & creative fun! It’s been so good to do something so different. I also got some ideas for new and healthy family recipes. This has been one of the best days out we’ve even been on, honestly! Please do more! “
