Sewerby Winter Woodland 2025!
Sewerby Hall & Gardens 2025
The Brief
Winter Woodland has become a much-loved fixture in the East Yorkshire Christmas calendar, with many families returning year after year to experience a new chapter in the story. Working with Sewerby Hall & Gardens from the very start of the planning process, we were once again asked to develop the overall narrative and creative concept that would shape the entire event – from marketing and visitor journey to lighting, sound and performance.
What We Did
We created a new story concept, The Snowman’s Ball at Sewerby Hall, in which visitors journeyed through the Winter Woodland helping to prepare for a magical celebration. Along the way they met characters busy with their own preparations, including the Woodcutter – guardian of 40–50 living Christmas trees that will continue to grow and evolve in future years – and Icelina the Snow Fairy, bringing sparkle, glitter and hopes of snow to the evening. At the heart of the experience was the Snowman himself, waiting at the end of the trail for guests to help bring the Ball to life. A particular highlight were the extraordinary Snowman costumes designed and made by Ruth, who created a character that felt truly snowman-like while allowing performers’ faces to remain expressive and warmly connected to audiences.
The Result
Visitors praised the 2025 trail as “absolutely brilliant” and highlighted how “the characters made it all come to life,” with many families noting it was a “great family evening out” and that the characters “engaged the children really well.” The event’s blend of lights, music and interactive storytelling continued to establish Winter Woodland as a much-loved festive tradition at Sewerby Hall & Gardens.
“Please pass on our thanks to the whole Rusticus team – it was the best Winter Woodland yet with superb audience feedback!!
