The Brief

Quarry Bank Mill’s illuminated Halloween trail is a unique experience that moves between the outdoor grounds and the historic mill buildings themselves. For 2025, Culture Creative asked us to develop character interactions that would heighten the atmosphere inside the mill and create a more intense, immersive experience for families while remaining accessible and theatrical rather than frightening.

What We Did

This year we shifted the focus of the Victorian Mill Owner character from the exterior of the building to inside the darkened, echoing industrial spaces. This allowed us to provide a challenge to visitors about why they were not at work, drawing them directly into the story of the site.

The Result

The new approach was extremely well received, with visitors responding strongly to the heightened drama and immersive storytelling inside the mill. The Victorian Mill Owner became a standout character of the trail, demonstrating how live performance can transform historic interiors into compelling and memorable Halloween experiences.
