Palace of Oz Filming
Culture Creative / Novak Studios 2025
The Brief
Following the success of our work on the Neverland Experience in 2024, we were invited back by Novak to create filmed performance sequences for Blenheim Palace’s new immersive indoor experience, Palace of Oz, designed by Culture Creative. The brief was to bring iconic moments from The Wizard of Oz to life through character-led storytelling, creating memorable narrative moments for audiences moving through the experience.
What We Did
Working in close collaboration with Clare, the lead designer at Culture Creative, we devised a series of filmed sequences featuring well-loved and instantly recognisable characters, while carefully ensuring that their look and behaviour were rooted in the original descriptions from The Wizard of Oz book rather than the Hollywood film adaptations. This included the dramatic moment where Dorothy throws a bucket of water over the Wicked Witch of the West — achieved through carefully planned filming (and a very game actress who really did get wet!). We also created the unmasking of the Wizard and a Glinda sequence in which she appeared to audiences to guide them safely home.
The Result
The filmed sequences became key narrative and dwell-time moments within the Palace of Oz experience, allowing audiences to pause, engage and absorb the story. Familiar characters, strong performance and inventive staging helped transform digital content into theatrical storytelling, building on the successful creative partnership established with Novak the previous year.
