Captain Hook in Neverland at the Palace!

The Brief

Following the success of 2023’s Sleeping Beauty, 2022’s Snow Queen and 2021’s Nutcracker we were excited to hear the theme for Culture Creative’s Christmas installations at Blenheim Palace. Neverland seemed wonderful – magical, whimsical and delightful with a strong story and sense of place. We couldn’t wait to get stuck in..!

What We Did

Rachel was able to use her extensive experience of working successfully in the Palace to plan an exciting framework for the audience interactions with Captain Hook. Jon got busy liaising with the design studio to co-create filmed and audio character sequences which would feature throughout the audiences’ journey. We had several days of brilliant green screen filming flying sequences involving both Peter Pan and Hook, and audio recording sessions with young people playing the Darling children, Lost Boys and Mermaids. Rachel and Jon then recruited and rehearsed a brand new team of charismatic performers ready to deliver an exciting encounter with the iconic Captain Hook!

The Result

We delivered another smooth season, with the team working well with the Blenheim Palace staff to provide magical moments for every visitor who stepped into the Long Gallery! Visitors were able to enjoy peeking down the tree stump and seeing the Lost Boys in their hideaway, hearing the mermaid’s chatter at the lagoon, as well as being charmed by the Darling children’s live action portraits and culminating in an interaction aboard the life-size poop deck with Captain Hook himself!
