Festive Forest!
Young People’s Forest Mead / The Woodland Trust 2023
The Brief
Following the overwhelming popularity of Festive Forest in 2022, we were asked whether we could return with our Wassailing Adventure in Christmas 2023 – but this time over two weekends and catering for larger audiences! And could we also provide a Father Christmas encounter..?
What We Did
First we looked at anticipated audience numbers and their flow through the experience. We adapted the adventure to a trail format which would allow small groups to flow through the experience during the evening. For the trail, we created four separate magical interactions with Snowflake, the Holly Fairy, Squirrel and Good King Wenceslas as well as a separate Father Christmas encounter. Working with the Youth Forum, who would be acting as event hosts, we made sure that they were comfortable with how the trail would fit in with the overall event.
The Result
The event – despite being challenged by flooding, snow and perilous winds – was hugely enjoyable and successfully engaged yet more of the local community with the work of The Woodland Trust.
