Featherstone Festival of Words
Wakefield Lit fest 2015
The Brief
Rusticus were commissioned by Wakefield Lit Fest to co-curate and deliver a creative events programme in collaboration with Beam, a local working group and Featherstone Library, funded by the Arts Council Strategic Touring Fund. Designed to be a ‘lit fest in a day’ and contain all the components of a traditional literature festival – the event needed to created with and for the local community.
What We Did
We created a number of bespoke events following community interest, including a literary murder mystery tea dance and an imaginative romp through 1950s adventure stories for children around Pearson Park with a charismatic explorer. We delivered creative workshops in local primary schools, engaged young people in a writing competition, programmed adult writing workshops and author events, and created a literature trail throughout the high street shops.
The Result
We successfully delivered a one-day celebration of reading, writing and words on Saturday 19 September 2015 at Featherstone Library, bringing high quality arts activity to areas of the Wakefield District with least arts engagement, building capacity and strengthening engagement with community partners.
“You were such a great appointment and brought massive benefit to the project, in terms of your creativity in pulling together the concept and programme, as well as the add on benefits of your amazing ideas for Cuthbert, the Murder Mystery and your work in the schools”
