About Us

Rusticus is a provider of fresh-air adventures for visitors to any venue – a combination of interactive performance, and a good old walk in the great outdoors!

We pride ourselves on the high quality of our work, designed by founding directors Rebecca Jenkins and Jonathan Stokes, who since 2009 have used their years of professional theatre experience to create exciting experiences which celebrate the outdoor spaces of a variety of visitor attractions and heritage sites.

Over that time, Rusticus has built a strong track record of working in partnership with our clients to understand their specific needs, and support them in developing both a fun, engaging offer for families and a growing loyal audience.

From its beginnings, the Rusticus style has been to take a fun, fresh and irreverent approach, making an accessible and engaging experience in which families play together in the great outdoors, and take happy memories away with them. From local history in a Derby park to bardic expression at Bridlington Poetry Festival, Rusticus has built on these early commissions to form long-standing and positive partnerships with a variety of venues across Yorkshire and beyond – and our reputation is still growing!

Both Jon and Rebecca take an active part in all areas of Rusticus – from designing a makeshift fruit-planting catapult and creating crazy characters, to writing marketing materials and liaising with venues and audiences. Rusticus are hugely fortunate to work with an incredibly talented and dedicated team of freelance actors, who share an interest in performing for family audiences in the great outdoors!
